Introducing Omut: Telegram, WhatsApp and our own messenger in one app

I am Nikita, and I am building Omut alone from Tokyo. This is the first post, so let me say what Omut is and why I started it.

Why Omut

My conversations are spread across apps and across languages. Friends are in one app, work is in another, and some people use a third. To find one message, I had to remember where it was written.

I wanted one app, one inbox and one search. That is Omut: Telegram, WhatsApp and our own messenger, Omut, in the same window.

What is ready today

  • A native iOS and macOS app written in Swift.
  • A backend written in Rust.
  • Telegram and WhatsApp inside the app, plus our own messenger, Omut.
  • A public beta on TestFlight. A few dozen beta testers are already using it.
  • This website in English, Japanese and Russian.

What comes next

Update, 9 October 2026: summaries of long voice messages powered by Claude are now in the beta. Translation and plans from chat are still in development.

These features are in development. I am not giving dates, because I would rather ship them when they work well.

  • AI powered by Claude. A short summary of a long voice message. The speech is transcribed on your device.
  • Translation in both directions, so you can read and write in a language you do not speak.
  • Plans from chat. If someone writes “let’s meet Friday at 7”, Omut can turn it into a calendar event.

After that, I want to bring more services inside the app and keep it a light super app: useful things in one place, without a heavy download.

Who is behind it

Omut is made by one person and is bootstrapped. There is no big team yet, so I read every message. If you try the beta and something feels wrong, tell me.

Write to [email protected], or find me on X and LinkedIn.

Thank you for reading. Get the beta if you want to see where Omut is today.
